A few months ago there was a strategic marriage between the Kalyon Group owner’s son and Demiroren Group owner’s daughter. This was observed by the president of Turkey that probably symbolically showed his approval for the unity. This union brought these two big media groups, Sabah & Hurriyet ever closer together.
This is the perfect time for a merger amid declining sales, poor influence, increased costs, competition from social media, and a backlash from customers. Since both companies have similar content, views, objectives and state support, a merger would be a win-win for both sides.
Moreover, a merger would reduce costs and debt, free up cash, combine resources and talent, and allow each group to spinoff unprofitable subsidiaries.
Finally, this union would also benefit the state banks, president’s agenda, state’s advertising budget and the environment (less paper printed).
All in all, a merger would be beneficial for all.
