The youth of today’s Turkey are under so much pressure from politics, religion, culture, identity, and economic fluctuations that they dream of life abroad especially in Western oriented countries. As they watch shows on Netflix or other sites, read and research, listen to their friends or family members who travel or live in another country, or watch TV, they say to themselves, “I want to live in a place like that.”
Unfortunately, many Turkish youth have lost confidence in their own country because they see Turkey going in a completely different direction.
Many Turkish youth complain about an array of issues:
- Unemployment
- Polarization
- Rule of law and justice
- Job prospects and opportunities
- Politics
- Corruption
- Educational opportunities (public)
- Government interference in their lives
- Lack of Democratic values
It is sad to see so many youth wanting to leave Turkey and start a new life in a completely different place. With so many talented youth wanting to leave, there will be a brain drain and loss of dynamic entrepreneurs.
Under the current conditions for many, it is definitely a legitimate way to improve their future.
